Updated: MORE NEW CLIPS Our America with Lisa Ling Modern Polygamy - Teresa moves out and comes back.

***Please check comments at about comment 74-76. I have added a new article link and two more video clips to check out. Thanks!

In Nov. 2011 we covered an E2 of the series "Our America With Lisa Ling - Modern Polygamy." Since that time, the video was pulled-however, we were lucky and found a link to the show in it's entirety. Why such interest in an older show? It is all about Centennial Park, and some of the same folks on this show are highlighted on POLYGAMY USA. It's almost like peeking into their world a couple years sooner.

Here the link to the original show:

http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/yyFmvqOHwOw/

Yes, you will feel like you are in Pokeman commercial world, but once the show is on, you'll forget all that!

Since then, clips have come out. Teresa in this clip moved out of the family home, then returned. Even Ole Arthur is in the clip.

The Story Continues: Modern Polygamy - Our America with Lisa Ling - Oprah Winfrey Network
And Dr. Drew:
It's a peek back in time to probably what got the ball rolling on "Polygamy USA."

  1. THANK YOU for posting the video where Teresa left.
Interesting that when she comes back into the home, we find out that they learned to communicate better.
What are they communicating about? Interpersonal relationships? Sharing, Jealousy? nooooo.... it's laundry!
Phew! Glad that need is met.

Lina Ling just repeats like a parrot... they have other mothers to go to.... yeah yeah yeah.
What they seem to miss that us "outsiders" have is that they seemingly spend so much quality time with their siblings and parents, only to often, move away and rarely see them again.
My husband and I have BOTH sides of the family over at the same time for Christmas. There is not a chance any polygamous family could do such a function.

    2. Why would a polygamous family NOT be able to do that? There is no founded reasons. They deveolp a system that works for them and they enjoy their families. Open your eyes and soften your hearts. Unless you were in an abusive relationship, you actually have no reason to bash their beliefs.

I believe it was the Lisa Ling doc, but a Centennial Park resident mentioned that they still had family that was FLDS...who refused to acknowledge their existence once they broke away to Centennial Park. So I can see the point anon 12:05 was making - that if this Centennial Park resident DID have a family reunion, the family still firmly in FLDS probably would not attend.

And who can forget when Amanda Darger married Rob from Centennial Park? Papa Joe and wives were very upset that, because they are independents, they could not participate in their daughter's wedding in CP. A definite worry voiced by Papa Joe was that once Amanda became part of the CP group her parents may not see her again - at least not as often as they would like.

    4. Even on POLYGAMY USA Michael went I believe on a picnic in an FLDS area, and they all left, even though they knew him. I remember him speaking of how his FLDS family won't talk to him.

  2. So interesting to see glimpses of Ezra, Arthur, Robert who married the eldest Darger daughter, etc. etc. not to mention the stars of the show. Thanks for posting!

  3. Did I see a flash of Michael´s ´seven wives and 50 kids dream poster'? He´s pretty damn proud of that isn´t he?

I think every show he displays that on needs to put a parent guidance warning up first, lest young boys everywhere start making one for themselves.

    3. He's WEIRDLY proud of that pathetic stick figure childish drawing that he did at 18!! so awkward.

  4. Connie looks like she has aged 10 years rather than three and I guess we see the window between 2011 and 2013 that Michael developed that nasal condition.

    2. The women didn't pick him. God picked him for them with the Brethren's approval. A member of the priesthood council is Brethren CAWLEY. Michael's last name is CAWLEY. He will get more wives, I guarantee that!

    3. Poor things! Thinking I was 18 and going to have to "fake marry" but act like a wife to that man..makes me shudder. Hell, at 40 I still shudder. He is not advertising himself very well on the show... showing how he decides who works and eats applesauce!

  5. I LOVE Dr Drew! I've never liked Lisa Ling's documentary because it seemed she never questioned one thing about Centennial Park, and her narration was just so monotone (as if speaking that way would make her more credible). So when she was gushing with admiration how well behaved all the children were and how the older girls took care of the younger ones, Dr Drew pointed out - hey! "Parentalizing older kids is considered pathology..." Kids should be allowed to be children is what's considered healthy, not being mini parental units. And don't forget Uncle Art's daughter Hannah who left because she got burnt out taking care of her younger siblings.

    1. You pointed out what I was thinking. Lisa has a very boring presentation. This is not s slur to the Amish, but they speak in an extreme monotone voice. No highs nor no lows. I would like to see the moderators here interview these folks.
Dr. Drew can go soft at times, but he wasn't candy coating this, was he?

    2. I don't think Lisa Ling is Amish. :-)

      Delete
    3. No, I don't either. I meant to say she talks in the same tone as them.

    4. "Parentalizing older kids is considered pathology..."

Betcha won't see Bob and Michelle Duggar on Dr. Drew's show anytime soon. That seems to be how their family functions. Michelle pops out a baby and assigns it to an older daughter.

      Delete
    5. I thought the same thing, AZ! They are the poster family for parentalizing.

      Delete
    6. Parentalizing older children in those huge families is an unfortunate must. One woman can't handle that many kids 24-7 without a nanny, the help of older children, or another wife. In polygamy some mothers rationalize this behavior by saying they are "preparing their daugthers for marriage and motherhood". I say "they are preventing their own nervous collapse". I read an article about a Barlow woman who claimed to have given birth to 22 children! It made me think of that family photo on the internet with an exorbitant amount of children and the caption "Hey, lady, it's a vagina not a clown car".

      Delete
    7. What about this daughter of Athurs that left? Is there a post on here about that?

    8. While I do not agree with the way centennial park believes, I do think that there is nothing wrong with children learning how to work and contributing to their households. Hard work teaches a lot of good to children. I do believe it needs balance but I'd take one of their children any day over the spoiled brats I see all around me. Our society has digressed so much in the last 50 years. It used to be that children learned to work and be responsible. Now they are given so much and appreciate so little. Rose Marie Cawley is quite a brainwashed girl but SO much more responsible than most 18 year old girls. I am impressed by that in her! Growibg up, my parents did not have a lot of money and we were taught to work and help out while my mom worked. I appreciate what it taught me.

      Delete
    9. Anon 5:26, When I see all the children in that community, over the age of five, so well behaved, I am suspicious. I suspect that I have not been allowed to see the full spectrum of their behavior or that I am looking at children who have been abused, verbally, physically, etc. I have heard Arthur talk about his fatherly duty of "kicking his kids in the pants", and I saw him throw a shoe toward a boy's head, I don't think that's a joke. It's indicative of a violent nature. I have heard that drugs and alcohol are a huge problem among teens in Centennial Park. So, while I agree that it's important to teach children important values with love and respect, I am wary of the methods used there.

      Delete
    10. I have worked with children my entire career. None were F.M. I have to say, there are just some families that have a calmer demeanor.. and can honestly say I have seen families where MOST of the young ones are very well behaved. Then there's the one (laughing) that poor mom is aghast at their behavior. The mom will come and say, Oh man, Mister Sister, this child is different than the others..beware! with a nervous laugh. Usually that child is a pistol, but also very intelligent.
Usually at least ONE is feisty in a family, don't you think? In the Amish communities, the children are very well behaved. They do speak in a much more monotone tone than most of us do, but they also know what a rod is.
It will be interesting to see what parenting skills are used. You are correct 11:39- Arthur pretty well shows that corporal punishment is probably used loosely.

  6. Thank you so much for posting this!! I've been wanting to see it for a very long time.

Gosh, michael's comments about future wives really creeped me out. He said something along the lines of "the man in me might see someone and go oooohhhhhhh... Hmmmmmm.. But I have to remind myself that if its what God wants for me then that's ok. I also have to tell myself that it might be a long while before this could happen" basically he's saying that he's got his eyes on little girls! If the girls are allowed to and generally get get married at 18/ 19 then that means he's probably checking out his students!!!! That means he is checking out girls that are his daughters' ages!!! Such a creep. I know Connie was one of his students but the whole thing is just creepy.

Also Connie is such a bitc#. I actually think it's kinda funny. Not only in this episode but she's just a wise ass all the time, never smiles, always seems annoyed. You can tell she runs that family (including Michael) it's sad for the other wives but her personality kinda cracks me up.

    1. If a man died than his wives and children would them themselves in new families. So if he were to get another wife she could be much like Robyn on sister wives with three kids. So his adding another wife could be adding 5 or 6 people. Perhaps he would add all the wives from that relationship and double the family size.

I think that is the real upset about polygamy. When the man dies the women are all made to remarry. They either have remarry the same guy or the kids lose their siblings when Meri marry Ben, and Christine marries John and Janelle marries Dave..

Public policy will never make polygamy legal. An employer would eventually have to make health insurance available to 3 wives and 50 kids. Think of the social secuity nightmare for spouses if they even work in a job that withholds that.

I don't know how much it would cost to builds house since they basically have free construction labor from the missionaries. If centenial park is so new, less than 20 years why or why are the houses too small? Why doesnt the michael family have more bunk beds, built by the missionaries. They could get 4-6 in a room. Where the heck is Costco? Since water is so precious and toxic I would use disposables too. What about amazon for a deal on diapers?

      Delete
    2. In reply to kms - We are not a members of the FLDS. If a man dies here in CP, his wives can choose to remarry or not. It is their choice not the Brethrens. Yes, they could all marry the same man or different ones or stay together as a family. They arent kicked out or looked down upon for their choices. I personally know all about this. Regarding health insurance, its a touchy issue here and everywhere since Obamacare is supposed to take effect next year. I personally have not been able to afford health insurance premiums so my family currently doesnt have health insurance. Most families here dont have it unless their employer offers it. If the fine print is read in an insurance policy, it states everything that is 'legal' such as only the legally married wife and children would qualify for the employers health plan. Their is no social security nightmare that you refer to. Spouses who work have the same withholdings held that everyone else does. If a man were to die, only those children whom his name is on the birth certificate would qualify; same goes for a woman too. It is very black and white with SSA; they have no gray areas. Missionaries ARE NOT free labor for families in CP. They serve their mission in service to the community with Uncle Arthur's guidance. Some stay here or some are sent to work on projects outside the community. It is about being in service to your fellow man and to learn about themselves. Only if they are directed to work for a family, they do so. They worked right alongside qualified people while assisting in building the new middle school here. As to bunk beds, bunk beds are bought or made by others who have the skills to do so. Missionaries dont build bunk beds or build houses. Unless you are living here and know the families, television is never going to give you the whole situation about them. Houses are built with the funds saved by families; very few people take out mortgages here to build. The large houses seen on all these programs are built through years of savings and long hard work. Most of them have taken over 5 years to to completed inside and out. Just because a house is finished on the outside does not mean it's finished on the inside. And Costco is in St. George which is 40 minutes away but we do have our own storehouse the purchase items from as need be.

    1. When Dawn Porter did her documentary, the husband of the Centennial Park family she stayed with REFUSED TO BE FILMED. I really think what's happening is if the husbands don't want to be filmed, only half the story is being told, so the production company may have required that the husbands be willing to be filmed. That's why we see the same families used from Lisa Ling's doc - Art Hammon, Michael Cawley and Isaiah "Thomson". The rest are those blurred faces.

    2. PS: I want to see the families that live in the huge mansions! I think it would be interesting for people to know just how wealthy these men are, where their wealth comes from, and how many recognizable businesses are actually owned by polygamists.

A few months back, K.Dee Ignatin mentioned on the blog that the company that manufactured the O'rings whose failure led to the Challenger disaster was owned and managed by polygamists...not to mention that many government contracts go to polygamist's businesses.

We already know about some wealthy mainstream Mormons, like the Marriotts and Romneys. How about those "hiding" wealthy Fundamental Mormons of Centennial Park?

    3. Very good point Cynical Jinx. The government does nothing about enforcing bigamy laws. They are in knee deep with the enemy. It is shocking that all these legislators and other officials must be getting huge kickbacks. (Alledgedly)

      K. Dee also has discussed how the govt. called Warren Jeffs' Group as an illegal criminal enterprise - the same category as the Mafia.

I must be the most naive person in the world, expecting the law to do right, the president to do his job, and seeing how that is not happening.

While in college in the east, I befriended someone on my dorm floor that had ran from the F.L.D.S. and was living with a family. She had moved over 1000 miles to start anew, helped by an underground type group. The stories she would share rocked my very soul. Then when I started reading and paying attention myself, my faith in the government has been shattered.

When the bean diet came out. I watched and waited. The news is outraged if something like this happens in a foreign country, but the silence of officials was deafening when this was happening under our own roof.
Are they stil on this bean diet? Has any official checked?
The groups money is silencing those that could stop this and other crimes.

    4. With all due respect Anon 2:50, the FLDS are separate from Centennial Park so I think the questions CJ asked about those wealthy Centennial Park hidden men is relevant, especially since they are asking for decriminalization of their lifestyle. The sins of the FLDS are a different matter entirely.

      Delete
    5. With the same respect Anony 3:39, where exactly did you read in my post that I was saying CJ's questions weren't relevant? Please do not put words in my post that are not there.
As a matter of fact, the sins are not entirely a different matter. Even though they state they were not a part of the FLDS, the LDS say they have nothing to do with any fundamental mormon group, they most certainly are secretly interconnected when it comes to business, money, and politics.

    8. It is not a crime if all monies are made legally. No one is saying that Centennial Park families don't make their legally. However, it is well known that other Fundamental Mormon groups are involved in illegal activity. Simply wondering where the nice houses are is common interest. I myself would like to know how they make such good money since few are educated.

    5. I would like to see Gloria Allred interview them. Let's get a hard hitting female in there who can see through the b@!$%&$!, and how polygamy advocates unequal marital rights for some women. Plural wives have no legal claim to family assets. How many uncoerced women would happily sign up for that without some kind of cushy living allowance from the likes of Bill Gates or Warren Buffet? According to my own statistics, zip, zero, none!

      Delete
    6. I have noticed how CPAC keeps saying they are fighting to have polygamy decriminalized, but they don't use the word legalized. I guess if they legalize polygamy, a plural wife would be able to legally sue the rest of the family for divorce, so she could start over somewhere else. That could get pretty expensive for the husbands and other wives in Centennial Park. In fact, one or two divorces in one family could financially crush that family, so it's better for the husband and first wife to make sure the plural wives can't get anything if they want to leave. No wonder CPAC uses the word decriminalize, so they can sustain a criminal lifestyle without the shame that it rightfully deserves.

      Delete
    7. i thought another main reason for not wanting it legalized but just decriminalized is cause then they can't continue to "bleed the beast" as they're used to doing in order to survive as supposed "single" moms w/tons of kids to support alone as they now can claim.

      Delete
    8. Here is your answers. Why do we want polygamy decriminalized? Because consenting adults should be able to live their lives as they chose not be governed by laws that are either archaic or discriminatory. US Congressional Acts date back to the late-1800s. They are 1862 Morrill Anti-Bigamy Act; 1882 Edmunds Anti-Polygamy Act; 1887 Edmunds-Tucker Act. The basic history behind these was to stop Mormons from practicing polygamy by seizing everything they had and to deny Utah statehood into the Union. You can search them out to read for yourselves. State Laws are UT Constitutional Article 3 Section 1; UT Criminal Code Title 76-Chapter 7-Section 101; AZ Revised Statute Title 13 Criminal Code Section 13-3609; AZ Constitutional Article 20 Section 2 Polygamy; There are other states in the last 5 years that have added codes to their own state laws concerning bigamy and/or polygamy.

As loosely defined, Bigamy is the act or condition of a person marrying another person while still being lawfully married to a second person. But it depends on how the state has written the law as to how they enforce it. Utah's law is 'swishy-washy' in its wording so they havent gone after consenting adults with the law. They have gone after adults with the law AFTER other crimes were committed first. There is a Polygamy Primer created about 4-5 years ago that explains the policies Utah is using in dealing with polygamous communities. (attorneygeneral.utah.gov/polygamy.html) Arizona had tended to follow Utah's lead in dealing with polygamous communities after the failed raid of Short Creek in 1953. This raid had repercussions that lasted for years afterwards at both the state level and family level.

from anon 6:49 "In fact, one or two divorces in one family could financially crush that family, so it's better for the husband and first wife to make sure the plural wives can't get anything if they want to leave. No wonder CPAC uses the word decriminalize, so they can sustain a criminal lifestyle without the shame that it rightfully deserves." Divorces here happen but they are a last resort. The wife that leaves doesnt 'financial crush' a family. She is treated fairly, often more fairly than a legal divorce in our country's justice system. The father still supports his children and has visitation rights even if the mother chooses to remarry. There is no shame in living plural marriage if you have chosen to do so. As stated over and over again, it isnt for everyone because its a choice of lifestyle just like monogamy or bachelorhood.

from anon 11:06 "they can't continue to "bleed the beast" as they're used to doing in order to survive..." I believe you have Centennial Park confused with the FLDS over the hill. Yes, they do 'bleed the beast' because that is what they are taught to do. In CP, we are taught to use our intelligence to build up our community and the Kingdom of God. People here work jobs within or outside the community. They pay their share of taxes. The children here go to school and graduate. They also have choices when they graduate: college, the missionary program, to get married, to leave. Its all about free agency. Most polygamous families have an adult home mom while the other adults work to support the family. In reality, there are more monogamous families living here than polygamous families. Interestly, 'bleeding the beast' is done by so many in this country of ours, its not just Hildale and Colorado City. Welfare is covered by all our taxes. If you go into a store when people have gotten the monthly allotment, you'd be surprised that they look just like you and not prairie dress wearing women.

    9. Rain, I'll change my opinion of Centennial Park and other Mormon polygamists the day they allow an African American to join their religion, be allowed into the priesthood and to live in Centennial Park as an equal.

      Until then, no decriminalization.

  9. Wow. Just watching the video and seeing how depressed rose is makes me depressed. Lisa Ling tried to make light of it and laugh but Rose was dead serious and did not think it was funny. That woman has got to be depressed. She rarely smiles. How could you not want to have sex with your husband? I get that there are ups and downs sexually (as there have been in mine) in a marriage but for it to be so bad that you add another woman so you don't have to have sex with your husband is Crazy! It made me think back to her comments about love and how marriage can't survive on just love (which I partially agree with) but she also said that when she married Michael she was not in love with him. (Which I definitely don't blame her!) She probably still isn't and that's why she doesn't want to have sex with him! So sad all of the joys that these people miss out on

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. How many kids does Rose have, though? If she can't refuse sex and she doesn't want ANOTHER baby I can see why should think a sister wife would take some of the pressure off of her.

That is what I thought when I saw it, anyway, maybe she just doesn't want to get pregnant?

      Delete
    2. Rose has 8, Connie has 7 and Teresa has 3. So I would think Rose and Connie are expecting Teresa to pick up the pace because she's lagging a bit.

      Delete
    3. I agree!!! I thought it was so awful that Rose said flat out that she had no desire to sleep with her husband. She can't love him, she can't even like him that much. Or, as Kim in AB said, maybe she just doesn't want any more kids. Either way, it was really sad to hear.

Also, the brethren (Claude?) said "We won't marry young girls. They have to be 19." Wasn't Kellie 19 when she married Hyrum? And Becca must have been 18 when she married Isaiah, since she is 20 in the special and they had been married for a year and a half. So, are they exceptions, or was that a flat out lie?

Learning about Robert's past was interesting. Maybe that's a reason why the Darger's were so wary of him. Anyway, I have a lot of respect for him.

      Delete
    4. The show said girls had to be eighteen to be married. At 18 the girl goes to the brethren with a name. If the brethren approves she's married in two weeks. I just watched the last show and next to Kellie's name was 18. She and Hyrum were moving into his brother's house.

Sorry but who is Robert and what is his past?

      Delete
    5. Isn't that the mantra of many of these polygamist wives?

Lamenting how nice it is for a new wife to come in and take the "burden" of preforming the sex act with their husbands. It seems many actually feel this way!

Isn't that the saddest thing? A woman marries a man she doesn't love, doesn't even know, and a very young age. Very naive to the ways of the world, and her body not only has to give in to a unloving relationship, but the trauma of having a baby 9 months later.

I've thought about different this is than mainstream America.

The "act" in general from marriage is between two people that love each other and know each other. The way they "create" these family groups, many of these women may never get the opportunity to enjoy the intimacy that should come from this event. These women probably never connect with their husbands emotionally the way that most do to their partner of choice.

It is telling of how cold these relationships really are.

Lisa Ling, you are a bore.

  10. I have to say I really like Connie. She is spunky and speaks her mind which is not all that common in CP.

  11. I finally got the video to work...I am technology challenged!!

With regards to the Cawley family I laughed at the poster again. I feel that Mike is so icky. Also, I really do not like wife #2. I really liked Rose as I do each week on Polygamy USA. To me that family highlights what could be wrong with polygamy although I do think Mike is a better father than Kody. He is really thoughtful regarding his beliefs and how to pass them to his children. It is still gross to me that he seems to be a wife/kid collector.

    1. Why do you believe he is a better father? Not disagreeing, just curious.

Maybe I have missed something. He seems to only talk to his kids about creepy indoctrination topics.

      Delete
    2. I don't know really. He just seems like he really believes in this religion and he is very serious about ensuring that his children have that background. Like he really cares about his children's spiritual future. I also had the same impression of Joe Darger. Maybe the "better father" is not accurate so much as they really seem like they are practicing polygamy because they have a real belief as opposed to Kody who seems like he is pretending. Now that all being said I obviously only see what is presented on tv.

    3. This is Michael Cawley, the man who is disposing of his older, less valuable children by making them sleep in repurposed industrial metal boxes with "China Shipping" emblazoned on the sides, so that there is more space for newer children? The man who cares more about living out a "dream" he had as a child to have seven wives and fifty children than he does about the family he actually has, despite being unable to afford apple sauce and clean water for them? THAT Michael Cawley, you believe is a good father?!

      Delete
    4. Good call, OpenMinded. The article with Michael gave me shivers, just as about everything he does. Certainly, a GOOD father would know when enough is enough and stop. He has a wife that runs away constantly and struggles with the religion. Why not work on the families he's got rather than produce more? Kody has about the same # of children and doesn't seem worried about it.

  13. After watching those videos it just goes to show how unhappy the Cawley family really is and how there is no support to those women. When Teresa talked about having problems with Connie she says she went to Michael, but he just accused her of tearing down another wife. Got it ladies. Don't complain to your husband, or try to talk to him or vent how you are feeling, cause he isn't having it. Again, and again, he talks about how he is the provider for the family? Really Michael? Two of your wives work the same amount of hours a week as you do, and then come home to cook and clean, and do laundry, while you don't. Your wives actually do a lot more than you do. And the storage containers in the backyard. Three wives vote no against it, but ladies 3 against 1, the 1 always wins cause he's the man.

And when we watch the dance, we see young Ezra Hammon dancing with someone other than Tiffany (lol) I would like to believe that Becca & Marleen saved up and moved out of the trailer but I really think what happened is, all the main players that they allow in front of the camera, they build up the homes for them to have. Though....Uncle Arthur still has the crappiest home. Wonder if they are building him something MUCH NICER.....since he is the break out "star". If Micheal shows that ripped up piece of paper again...I am going to lose it. Maybe hang it in his storage containers...wait...his house addition.

    4. Hyrum probably doesn't need a house because he was a missionary and participated in placement marriage. I think they are just trying to keep Ezra from marrying an outsider.

      Delete
    5. They need a place to stay and ten thousand. Hyrum is 22. Not an 18 year old high school drop out. Hyrum served almost 4 years doing community work. Hyrum has a place to stay. He is at a brothers place. The girl has to be 18. Tiffany is 18 in 2 months. She has no skill. Go to a school to learn to do hair and such. A friend teaching you isn't enough. $50 isn't enough. She has delayed gratification issues. And she is years ahead of her boyfriend in maturity.

    7. Most people in the know, know that much of the extreme wealth lies among the tithe collecting brethren and their families. Now, I would like to know, why they haven't broken ground on the temple they have been talking about for 30 years. If all these wealthy brethren had been paying 10 percent of their income (and I will refrain from making other accusations here regarding a certain tithing book and an audit during the Naylor split), I would think this imaginary temple would be a gleaming reality for all to see. Instead, we get to look at the brethren's extravagant homes. I'm not complaining, because they are beautiful, I'm just saying...

  24. Have recently watched the 6th episode and couldn't wait to see if it was being discussed on this site and to read everyone's opinions:) Here are my 2 cents:
The who storyline with Ezra and his girlfriend seemed very contrived for the show. Ezra comes off like a party boy with no work ethic, which is surprising since his dad seems to be a hard worker but then again with so many kids Ezra probably didn't get too much one on one time with his dad. He should definately not be getting married, too immature as well Tiffany has no idea what she is getting into coming from a monogomous background, poor girl seems really in "love' with Ezra.
Hyrum seemed really disappointed with Kellie at first but (sorry to be so blunt) then they did it so he seemed to have softened!
As for the Crowley's (?) The husband I think really likes to feel important like the center of the Universe and takes his role as patriarch very seriously which isn't a bad thing although must be pretty suffocating to the wives. Storage containers actually not a bad idea, will look pretty good if done right. Don't know why they don't utilize their land for growing veggies. Also I can kind of understand the applesauce frustration especially when you have such a large family and limited resources. As for Rose-marie, I don't think she wants a husband at all. I think she enjoys taking care of a family just not being married. I found it a little weird that when she was getting ready for the New Year's ball she mentioned how she's never really liked boys. Kinda weird considering she's 18 and hasn't had ANY crushes at all.
As for the family with the 2 wives and husband that is gone all the time. I get the feeling there's really strong chemistry between wife #2 and husband...well till new wife comes into picture. Also thought it was kind of mean when the sister wives were playing cards and wanted to bet on something and the younger one proposed the for the night thing and then laughed about how if she lost he would have to go with the older wife and not her, made it seem like he would be soooo disappointed with that.
Phew, thanks for letting me get all that off my chest!

  28. I think actions speak louder than words. Joanne doesn't live polygamy because she knows how degrading it is to women and how damaging it is to children. She is a medical professional who said on national television, in response to women coming forward about the child abuse in Colorado City, "just because it happened to you, doesn't mean it happened to everyone".

So much for Joanne advocating for the children. I think she is hypocritical and should be temporarily banned from practicing medicine. How in the world could she claim to be unbiased, when it comes to reporting child abuse, after making that victim shaming statement?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Joanne is the bleeding heart daughter of one of the leaders. The reason they don't put the father's name on those birth certificates is because it causes the state to go through one more step to prove paternity (dna test), which buys the family more time to hide assets in the case of a child support claim.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Whoa a minute! I think Joanne is advocating for the children. And what does her being the daughter of a leader have to do with anything other than she and her husband are allowed to live in Centennial Park even though they don't practice the religion.

Anon 12:51, that's funny. If he's a hit on those shows, maybe he could get his own show called "The Perpetual Batchelor".

Anon 8:05, I stand by everything I said about Joanne. Who is she advocating for? She has no legal or valid reason for witholding the fathers' identities on those birth certificates. And it has more potential benefit for the father who wants to pay less child support than it does for the child. No polygamist in UT-AZ is going to jail or getting taken away from their parents unless other laws are being broken. But she can't stop herself from pretending like this danger is imminent. What bothers me most is that she and I both know what she knows and over the years she has said more to support the abusers than the abused. She defends polygamy because of who her father is, but won't live it, which speaks volumes about how she really views it. I stand by what I have said and I would say it to her face.

    1. Might the lack of a father on the birth certificate make it easier for the women to escape with their children? Also, like it or not, leaving the father's name off the BC makes it easier for the children to go on Medicaid and food stamps. Maybe that enables the plygs, but those kids do need to eat and they do need healthcare and there is some question of whether the fathers would choose food and medicine for their children over adding more wives and children to their celestial families.

I believe that God will take folks for all kinds of religions.

The reason Mormonism is not Christian is because it denies one or more of the essential doctrines of Christianity. For example: Mormonism denies that there is only one God in all existence and also denies the forgiveness of sins alone in Christ alone. Therefore, it is outside Christianity. It is not a Christian religion.

This can be debated back and forth, which I don't want to start. Just another man's opinion

    6. Mormons do believe in the doctrines of the Bible. While it is true that they do not adhere to some of the creeds that were established by the Council of Nicea and other Christian councils, they are Christians because they believe in Jesus Christ as the only way to get to heaven, as the Savior of the world. I'm talking mainstream Mormons here, not fundamentalist Mormons. I haven't done as much research on fundamentalist Mormons, but I know there is a huge difference between mainstream Mormons and fundamentalist Mormons in terms of who goes to heaven and what you have to do to get there.

Mainstream Mormons do not believe that those who are not Mormon go to hell. They believe that there are three levels in the afterlife. Those who accept Jesus Christ as Savior are baptized and make temple covenants (as part of their dedication to Jesus Christ) will go to the highest level, called the celestial kingdom. The other two levels are for those who do not accept Jesus Christ.

Fundamentalist Mormons believe that in order to get to the celestial kingdom you have to live the principle of plural marriage. I do not think they believe you will go to hell if you don't, just that you won't make it to the very top heaven.

  40. Yes, prayers to the Brown family, esp. Curtis' wife and children. They were on the show.

  42. I looked back and this is the review from the episode that featured Curtis.
"Then there's Curtis, and his wife Erica who do not practice polygamy because he doesn't believe in plural marriage. In fact, he doesn't believe in the Book of Mormon either. He's just a Christian."

Sorry to hear about his passing, that is very sad!

  45. I do enjoy reading everyone's comments here and points of view. However, I feel that Anonymous has given some misinformation. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons) are Christian and have strong views and opinions. Are we always correct and right? Nope. And I am open to any questions that are posted. But I am Christian I do Believe and Love my Savior Jesus Christ. I believe the Bible to be the word of God as well as the Book of Mormon. Keep all of the wonderful information coming!!!

    1. The Brown Clan and The Polygamy Clan are not LDS. They are Fundamental Mormon.
Curtis Brown changed and accepted the Christian Church, and entirely different church.

I am not sure why we are looking at their beliefs here when we are looking at Fundamental Mormon Beliefs. LDS can not even embrace that FM was the "starting" of their church and proclaim they are not Mormon.
I don't think on can say the other is wrong, for it is so splintered in this day and age, each has their own beliefs.

However, I found this outline which has four parts on this website which is fair.

Also, to have the differences very clearly laid out here.

    2. Thanks to everyone who replied to the comments concerning Mormonism and Christianity.

The conversation has run its course. Let's agree to disagree and move on.

      Thank you!

  46. Haven't been on in awhile. Trial wore me out! Great to read others thoughts on here.

I have been coming to see what happened to Curtis.
First I have to say...just when I thought I was out... you pulled me back in...HAHAHAHA

POLYGAMY USA. Never would of chosen it myself, but after coming here, found it really is a closer insight and much less drama filled- it seems more realistic. Let's hope they stay that way. Am I the only one not fond of Arthur?

The tribute you posted above for Curtis is a classy, well thought piece. Why should a blog that basically pokes fun at the family suddenly be taking in condolences? Yet, on the flip side, I know the gals here have very big hearts, and are truthseekers. Truth is, EVERYONE cares and would never want harm to come to another individual, and it does rock us some from our armchair positions. I think it was a very smart move to suggest they post at the funeral home or other sites. Just another example that THIS BLOG is a GREAT BLOG. Any other blog would enjoy the attention, the administrators here want the family to receive that. HOW WONDERFUL ARE THEY! Me, I will pray for his wife and children and parents tonight, simple and at home. SWB crew, you really show your grace.

Folks, you can argue religion until you are blue. Sad thing is every party believes they are right. Let's get back to ole grouchy Arthur!

  47. On the other post about Curtis passing away, any chance someone could post a link to the Curtis clip so that we who own Mac computers can see it?

  48. Just took a quick look at the pictures; there's quite a resemblance between the two. Curtis looked like Kody would look if he was "real." He looked like he was all the nice things written about him in the obituary.

A show about a man who buys 30 pairs of shoes for needy kids would be a lot more interesting than a show about a man who comments that his life is so hectic that he has to have 4 different pairs of running shoes so that there's 1 pair at each wife's house.

  49. I just don't understand this religion at all. FLDS has the high prophet pick young girls husbands. Don't they have a "book" they put girls names in when they start their cycle?
The AUB tauts that there is serendipity and buzz; more like the first wife picks. the Centennial Park says the women pick their husbands. What do other sects do?
Which sect is trying to keep pure?
All the while, the man has to call the women to heaven. Better pick a good one!
Poor Michael's wives-if they ate all the applesauce, they might be in trouble come "calling day"

  50. After reading some older posts on the FLDS, it has brought up a question.
Centennial Park, do they have the fences, border patrol, cameras on their camp?

  51. Are the polygamists going on TV, making videos, giving interviews, etc., in order to legalize polygamy?

  53. I've looked and can not find a place where you can see Arizona Teacher license lookup. I think that the Charter school is not accredited. Any other state you can easily find a teacher license. Can someone else find the lookup for AZ?

    1. Here's the link to the Arizona Department of Education website for Masada Charter School in Centennial Park. If you click on the link for the schools report card, you'll see that the school is graded A (on a scale A-F) and that the school has met its school performance objectives.

      http://www.ade.az.gov/charterschools/search/SiteList.asp

scroll down to find Masada Charter School in the list, then click on the link.
